I have lived with this progressive disease through both parents and grandmothers. I have seen the worst of complications from diabetes such as kidney failure, heart disease and depression. This book provides knowledge, answers and just a great amount of information in a concise manner. At times there would be questions that would come up concerning their disease and care that they would not ask or would forget to ask the physician.

This book would have answered those questions and could have been a great guide for them. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who has this disease in their family. I feel that this book can also be a guide for family members to have a better understanding of what is going on in the diabetic family members life. Having seen what this disease can do, I feel that both the patient and all family members involved should read this book to fully understand exactly what is happening and could happen if this progressive disease in not controlled. I know that I will have a copy and it will be my guide in controlling my health.

I would like to thank you for writing your book “I Have Diabetes!! Now What?”

The information contained in this well written book has been very beneficial for me personally.

Chapter 3 –“Treatment Goals” was most helpful for me. I have been diabetic for more than 25 years. My diabetes is presently under control but it has been a long time since I set goals. Things have changed because of my age, and you helped me get back in touch and understand where I should direct my efforts.

I plan on giving copies of your book to my wife and our four children. Although none of them have diabetes at this time, I feel it will help them to avoid becoming diabetics by setting goals now and assembling their Medical Care Team.

Again, thank you for a wonderful and helpful book.

I just want to take a moment to say thank you for your kind words and help during my son’s early diagnosis of diabetes. It was truly overwhelming and we didn’t know where to begin. Your book is a great start for newly diagnosed patients. I think the most important part is understanding the significance of having a team approach. This became paramount to Alex’s care with regard to school. It has definitely been a challenge.

The next step is understanding the long term ramifications of this disease. Specifically I want to better understand it’s impact on his other organs and what his long term care looks like.

Alex initially was amazing at taking charge of his diabetes. However, I think the newness has warn off and reality has set in. Now I have to remind him constantly to write down his carbs and check his blood sugar BEFORE his meals. Nonetheless, overall he has done extremely well.

Thanks again for your help Andrew!
